About

Greetings, I’m Dr. Mario Barfield and I would like to start by saying Thank You for taking some time out of your day to learn more about me, and the services I am privileged to provide as a licensed psychologist. I am originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where I completed my undergraduate studies at Pennsylvania State University. Approximately one year after finishing my undergraduate degree, I moved across the country to California (after having never been further west than Michigan), and ultimately earned my Masters and Doctorate degrees in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology/Argosy University San Francisco Bay Area campus. My clinical training prior to securing my professional license in 2013 included working with under-resourced communities of color in office, school and home based settings. Prior to my clinical training, I worked in several residential facilities and summer camps with diverse youth, which is where I formed the foundation of my therapeutic skill set. Since September of 2013 I have worked as a staff psychologist, in conjunction with an amazing team of professionals, at UCSB Counseling and Psychological Services. Within my role at the university I am able to provide a variety of therapeutic services aimed at supporting the mental wellness of the general student body, with a specific focus on the African Diasporic student population. As I continue to find this work both important and deeply rewarding, I look forward to the opportunity to diversify my professional identity as well as to expand my efforts to provide accessible, inclusive, strength based, and culturally informed mental health services within a community setting. *Please note that for the Anthem insurance panel, I'm only considered in-network for UC SHIP*
